Future Fantastic is a series of programmes in which The X- Files star, Gillian Anderson, looks at scientific developments which promise to transform life in the next century. The Brave New Body examines advances in the manufacture of body parts and asks whether we will be able to create a bionic man, or whether we are bringing to life the story of Frankenstein. One prospective use of this technology is for disabled people, enabling them to gain greater control over their environment by implanting electrodes in the body to create a link between the brain and the mechanised body part. Available from the Wellcome Trust. (Aired 19 July 1996)
